1st Team played in the North Berks Division 1
1st Team Manager: Duncan Mitchell
Website Press Release by the 2010/11 Vice Chairman July 2011:
AFC Wallingford have appointed youth team coach Duncan Mitchell as their new first team manager. Mitchell has a long association with the club having had two spells at the Hithercroft either side of a move to Oxford United in the mid 1980’s. He returned to Wallingford for 4 seasons before moving to local rivals Wantage Town and then Milton United, where he was part of the early 90s side that won the Hellenic Premier title and successive Berks & Bucks cup honours.
Mitchell returned to Wallingford 2 years ago to take up a coaching role with the youth side and takes on first team duties following the resignation of ex-boss Michael Butcher last month.
From the new Manager:
‘I have good people on board with me in Terry Driscoll (Assistant Manager) who has played non-league football at the highest level with Stevenage & St Albans and Stuart Wylie, who is also an ex-Wallingford player and has Ryman League experience behind him’
‘Myself and Terry will try to instil in the young players some good footballing principles as well as provide them with a strong set of values as people. We are bringing boys sides into the club and with them will come many new parents and it is important to me that our first team is held in high regard for the way it plays and the way it performs in every sense. I want players here who have Wallingford at heart and I’m hopeful of bringing in some former players but they must be players who will muck in, help the young lads, have respect for the club and for the people behind the scenes who keep the club going.
If we can do that and get the team firing I hope we will produce a side and a club that the town can take pride in’
