Taken from the AFCW website 15th June 2011: Charlie’s name was synonymous with football in Wallingford for over 35 years as a player and then manager of Wallingford Town, then subsequently as player, founder committee member, groundsman, A Team and first team coach of AFC Wallingford. Charlie was instrumental in establishing AFC Wallingford as a successful playing and community club in the 1990s, before helping us to survive through difficult times more recently; he was one of an increasingly rare breed of lovers of the game who were prepared to go the extra mile for his local football club.

In November 2009 Charlie was diagnosed as having a very rare type of cancer known as cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile duct. After a 19 month battle Charlie passed away peacefully at 55 years of age on Sunday 12th June at home surrounded by his loving family.

As well as a Wallingford v Wantage shield game played annually in memory of Charlie, a memorial day arranged by Charlie’s family takes place at the Hithercroft every year where the ‘Charlie Allum Memorial Trophy’ is competed for with proceeds donated to the UK’s only Cholangiocarcinoma charity the ‘AMMF‘.
